NEW FOR 2008:
- All-new model
An all-new model to Canada, the 1 Series becomes BMW's entry-level and smallest model, available in coupe or cabriolet configuration.
Both coupe and cabriolet are available as the 128i, with a naturally-aspirated 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder, and as the 135i, with twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre six-cylinder; both engines are shared with the 3 and 5 Series. Both come standard with a six-speed manual transmission or optional six-speed automatic with manual shift mode.
The cabriolet models feature a fully automatic soft-top that opens in 22 seconds at speeds up to 40 km/h and include a rollover protection system.
Standard features on both 128i Coupe and Cabriolet include 17-inch alloy wheels with run-flat tires, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats in "leatherette", 60/40 split rear seat, iDrive controller with six programmable memory keys, Bluetooth hands-free telephone system, and CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary audio jack.
The 128i Cabriolet model also features Xenon headlamps and transport bag; optional is a Silver-Grey Effect roof, constructed of fabric interwoven with silver-coloured metallic fibres that make it iridescent in sunlight.
The 135i models add 18-inch wheels, an M Aerodynamics package, sports suspension, and high-performance brake system.
BMW calls its newest line the evolution of the iconic BMW 2002 model; beautifully styled and nicely sized, it should prove popular with those who want the BMW driving experience but don't need a full-size model.
